Red Karavan were commisioned by Five Foot 2 Blonde Ltd to "resurrect" Dusty Springfield for their West End musical "Dusty".

 

Using a blend of original archived footage and CG, Red Karavan has brought Dusty Springfield back to life to perform four of her hits “All Cried Out”, “Spooky”, “Look Of Love” and the iconic "Son Of A Preacher Man".

 

Creative Director Andy Taplin, comments:

 

"This project was an epic challenge from the very first pre-production meeting, right through to delivery.  Not only did we have to work with very low resolution footage from the 1960s, we also had to carefully design choreography & wardrobe to make the performance as realistic as possible.  There were restrictive boundaries that we had to adhere to throughout the production, which made the project all the more challenging.

 

Where footage was not available, we then introduced a vast amount of CG to replicate Dusty’s face and elaborate wigs.  We had a great team of artists compositing these elements with the excellent performances of the body double.  As a result we were able to create four holographic performances.”
